HERE'S A WINNER OF THE HARD SWEDISH WINTER: FIAT ALN 668 DIESEL RAILCAR
After 3 months of summer and winter tests for a total of 38,000 km travelled on secondary lines of Sweden, S.J. (Swedish State Railways) select FIAT diesel railcar signing a contract for the supply of 100 vehicles, strictly derived from our basic type ALn 668.

Dear Mr Piccoli,
The Government having now decided to approve of our purchase contract as supplemented by the agreement of June 10, 1977, I have the honour to transmit through you to Fiat, enclosed, the confirmation provided for in § 2 of the contract and referred to under point 5. in the agreement. Consequently, the contract as supplemented by the agreement, enters into force between SJ and Fiat as of to-day.

The light Diesel Railcar that will be supplied to the Swedish Railway is of the bogie type, with automatic transmission.
Each railcar is powered by two FIAT 8217.12.150, 165 KW (UIC nominal) horizontal engines, which are mass-produced for road vehicle traction (trucks and buses).
Railcars are suitable for coupling with up to 6 units of the same type, so that from any one cab a single driver may control 12 traction engines.
The bogies are designed to provide passengers with notably high riding confort even at elevated train speeds.

Access to cars is gained through four electropneumatically controlled entry doors (two on each side).
Passenger compartment heating is provided by radiating convectors through which flows water re-circulated from the Diesels and from two automatically controlled, gasoil-fired boilers.
The body can withstand compression up to 150 tons.
Heat insulation is suitable for -40°C temperatures.
Electrical system services supply is 24 V d.c.
Continuous, emergency compressed air braking system.
